On September 8th 2025 “The Parlor” Opens

Something to do on Monday afternoons between 1 and 4 is coming to the First Universalist Church at 31 North Main Street in Orange on September 8th. Krissy Dorn, who suggested turning the Church’s Ladies’ Parlor into a thrifty gift shop to the congregation as a way to help raise money to offset the ever spiraling costs of keeping a historic building like the church open, was given the green light at the end of June and has spent the summer putting it together with help from her family, Hans Rickheit and Ripley Dorn. Generous donations from the church members help fill the racks and shelves, and ongoing donations will be welcome.
Always a devoted second-hand shopper and clothes horse, the fact that most shops were closed on Mondays struck Dorn as a disappointment, and so it seemed like the perfect day to offer an option for a little something to do. Along with a curated selection of clothing, there will be a little bit of everything: cards, houseplants, artwork, books, cds, dish sets, jewelry & knick-knacks. Home-made cookies and coffee will also be available, along with comfortable seating for people to sit and peruse the books or cds, or just relax and chat with a friend

.

Krissy Dorn and Ripley Dorn stand in “The Parlor”, a new gift shop opening Monday, Sept. 8, in the downstairs, handicapped accessible vestry of the First Universalist Church at 31 N. Main Street in Orange.
